Another beautiful week has gone by and things have been as busy as ever with the Core Keeper community! We hope our friends in the Northern Hemisphere are all keeping warm as autumn sets in and that the shorter days just mean longer nights cozied up playing video games Also, not to be those guys but...we've just realised that it's Friday the 13th! Portal Crafted at significant expense, players can teleport between Portals placed anywhere in the world. Greatly speeding up returning to key locations.

This is done by activating all three boss statues connected to it. Each is associated with one of the first three bosses. Defeating that boss will drop an essence necessary to activate their statue:

Right away, use the basic crafting available to you in your pack menu to make some torches, a pickaxe, and the workbench. Everything else can wait for a bit, since you’ll need a few other key items and upgrades before you go much further.

Generally speaking, it's a good idea to place your base near the Core. The Core has a Waypoint which can teleport you to other areas, and crafting your own Waypoints and Portals is expensive.

Character creation doesn’t get too complicated, but you might hesitate over choosing your character’s Background and the perks that come along with it.

You’ll have goals in mind, sure — maybe you want to find a certain ore to craft a certain helmet with a certain perk before facing a boss — but it can be just as easy to pick a direction, any direction, and start tunneling.

And if you want to make sure you always have fresh ingredients, craft a hoe to clear out some farmland, and plant the seeds that you’ll inevitably pick up during your travels.

You’ll start by creating a character with one of several class specialties, though things will even out the more you play, so the choice doesn’t carry as much weight as it initially seems to.

I’m not convinced Core Keeper can match the quality and scope of its best-in-class inspirations, but it’s already worth a look in Early Access, and if the rest of the pieces fall into Core Keeper Gameplay place leading up to the full launch, it’ll be fondly remembered. [Early Access Review]
